Playing D&D in Latin America
On March 26th, 2018, I was invited to join the amazing artist Claudio Pozas to talk about our experiences growing up in Latin America and playing D&D there. Claudio grew up and lives in Brazil, while I grew up in Colombia (moving to the US when I was 13).

I had the opportunity to revisit fond memories of growing up in Colombia, playing D&D with whatever materials we could find or bring from the US. It was extremely hard back then to find adventures or sourcebooks, so each one was a real treasure. I thank my Mom, because she was the person who encouraged me to start playing. D&D was a big part of my getting past some of my most difficult and awkward times growing up, helping me to create lasting friendships and find my place both with others and internally.
Towards the end we talked about the great difference members of the community can make on our careers and lives, and how lucky we are to be in a community that has so many positive members. Being on Dragon Talk was truly a special experience for me and a tremendous honor for which I am very thankful! Que oportunidad tan tremenda, gracias!

I am Colombian-American, with my father being Colombian and my mother American. Growing up in South America was really very special. In many ways I feel like I am a child of both countries, though my time in the US and lighter skin means it is often not recognized. To be honest, sometimes I feel bad about that – I wish it were more obvious so that I could perhaps do a better job of representing Latin America and encouraging Latinos to feel welcome in our community.
Didn’t know you where from Colombia, I’m as well and completely understand the thing about the manuals so hard to find and so precious once you could actually buy one.
